Institute for Information and Electronics Research
As the importance of electronics, information, and communication technology in modern society has increased, the need for developing competitive IT technology is required to lead the latest technology necessary for knowledge-intensive societies and contribute to their growth. As a result, the Institute for Information and Electronics Research was established at Inha University on July 1, 1992. The institute focuses on the basic research and applications related to information and electronics technology. There is also a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research to stimulate new research area. Another important role of the institute is to produce exceptional researchers for industry and university projects.
The institute covers a broad research area, covering such fields as: information, communication, semiconductor, and control and industrial electronics. Information research activity encompasses image & voice signal processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, computer architecture, networks, parallel and distributed processing, multimedia, biological information system engineering, circuit and system, logic circuit, and fuzzy system. Communication research activity includes studies on wireless mobile communication, information communication device, and avionics (radar, artificial satellite). In the semiconductor field, the following intensive research has been conducted : Device modeling, integrated circuit design, nano-physics & devices, system integrated circuit design, information display, and microsystem. Finally, in the control & industrial electronics area, work on intellectual control, robot control, power electronics, laser, and sensor has been performed to form a bridge between basic technology and applications.
Research teams mainly consist of the faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. Because of the wide research fields of the institute, the interdisciplinary composition of research teams is quite advantageous. The faculty and students typically work with researchers at industrial research institutions in academic-industrial collaboration projects . The faculty in the research team trains students to develop international competitiveness and the institute also conducts seminars, workshops, and international symposiums to contribute to the development of IT technology.
